The Sunday Review – Floppeze Nursing Pillow

I don't know where we'd be if I hadn't received my Floppeze Nursing Pillow shortly after Lara was born. I had already bought a nursing pillow to help support my baby while breastfeeding but it was small, uncomfortable, rough, and not massively supportive! The Floppeze (we named it Floppy) was given to me for review and my initial reaction wasn't great: the garish cartoon pattern on the fabric made it look cheap and the 'animal' shape looked like a cross between a dog, a horse, a sheep, a cow and an elephant!

I very quickly realised that looks aren't everything! The Floppeze has become one of my most regularly used pieces of baby equipment and to be honest, Lara doesn't really care what the pattern looks like, or whether it is recognisable as a real animal. The fabric that the cushion cover is made out of is 100% rayon and it is incredibly soft and easy to wash. The shape is designed for functionality and it works extremely well. Now Lara is a little older, she likes to grab the ears and tail of the cushion and generally abuse the poor creature for her own entertainment!

The Floppeze is shaped so that it can be used as a breastfeeding or bottle-feeding support pillow, placed around your own waist. I know that it particularly helped my husband out when he first started giving Lara bottles because for him, placing Lara into a comfortable feeding position wasn't an instinctive feeling. I used the Floppeze to support Lara when feeding right up until I gave up breastfeeding earlier this month.

But, unlike my other breastfeeding support pillow, the Floppeze won't be finding its way onto ebay any time soon. It is designed to grow with your baby, providing support for them when they are lying down and when learning to sit up. Now Lara can sit up unaided, but we tend to leave Floppy behind her to break her fall when she throws herself backwards in excitement (or exhaustion).

The Floppeze website also recommends the cushion for use as a head support in the car for older children, but it looks a bit large and unwieldy to me for this purpose... we shall see.

You can buy the Floppeze online (including from the manufacturer, Pink An Blue) for around £26.95. There are lots of (less garish) colours and designs to choose from.
