Why my Mum won't be getting chocolate for mother's day

Earlier this week I posted a mother's day competition where I asked entrants to tell me why their Mum deserves to win a prize. Anyone who knows me well will also know that my Mum is a prizewinning mum herself (in more than one way)! But this year I really think my Mum deserves a special Mother's Day gift.

In previous years I've blogged about Mother's Day Chocolates. I'd have loved to be able to offer my own mum the box of chocolates that I was sent to review this week (and, given the speed that I nommed through one of Hotel Chocolat's All About Mum H-Box Selection boxes, I will definitely be holding out for chocolates from my own little girl this year) BUT... I won't be buying chocolates for my own Mum.

Last May, on our way home from a lovely family holiday in France, Mum discovered, at 35,000 ft, that she was diabetic. The last year has brought a lot of changes to Mum's life - not just her diet. Changing the way you live is pretty hard work at the best of times and life always seems to be throwing more challenges at her and yet she seems to take it all in her stride.

So Mum, I know you're reading this... I just want you to know that you're amazing and that, even though you can't eat these chocolates that doesn't mean I've forgotten Mother's Day is on its way this year. Mind you, if it helps at all, Hotel Chocolat do have some interesting material about diabetes on their website which suggests that if you opt for a very high cocoa content then a little goes a long way. However, I shall now proceed to devour the Bison Grass Vodka chocolate, the Strawberry & Black Pepper chocolate and the Soft Chilli Caramel on your behalf and get my thinking cap on for a sugar-free gift instead. Sorry mum.

Instead of chocolate, how's about a nosey for a mother's day present at
