Tights4Tots

There is something so simple about a pair of tights or leggings that makes them such an appealing choice of clothing for a toddler, or a baby.  We've always opted for simple tights or leggings for our girls either alone, or under a skirt or shorts.  Tights4Tots is a website dedicated entirely to luxury tights for little people; from babies through to toddlers and even children upto 5 years old.

Blade and Rose knitted tights all have a very cool design knitted into the bottom which makes them great fun to wear as leggings and, if your baby is sporting a cloth nappy, it makes a lovely squidgy baby bottom look even more squidgable!  I absolutely could not resist these zebra-striped Blade and Rose leggings for Holly.  The zebra bottom is a bonus but the tights look awesome whether she wears them alone, or under a skirt.

mylittleduckling Pilot Hats Review

I always know when a product I'm trialling is going to be a hit.  It is a sort of gut instinct.  When mylittleduckling first contacted me to tell me about their awesome baby pilot hats, I just KNEW.  For me, the ultimate tests for a new piece of baby or toddler clothing are

• is it comfortable?
• is it practical?  as in, will it stand-up to the test of tiny hands? and wiggly babies?
• does it make heads turn?

The answer, for this gorgeous baby pilot hat is a resounding Yes, Yes, Yes!

mylittleduckling make gorgeous, imaginative hats for babies and toddlers from 6 months to 4 years.  The hats come in a range of colours suitable for both girls and boys - our favourites are Dragonfly blue and this Lollipop purple which Holly loves to pieces.

When Holly first received her mylittleduckling hat, she wanted to wear it straight away and insisted on wearing it in the house.  I thought we were going to have arguments about it!  The hat is a soft, knitted cotton on the outside, with a snuggly bright yellow cotton fleece lining.  On the outside, the pretend goggles really perked Holly's imagination.  The goggles are fabric and are well-attached to the hat (trust me, Holly has already tried to move them!) and each side of the hat is covered with decorative "flaps" with press-studs.

Rusks and Rebels Personalised and Designer Kids Clothing Review

These two bundles of loveliness are my cheeky monkeys.  These days they are partners in crime.  My two little rebels.

The girls were sent these gorgeous skinny fit t-shirts by Rusks and Rebels as an introduction to their 2014 summer range of personalised and designer clothing.  I love them.

My ASBSOLUTE favourite item from the whole Rusks and Rebels range is this personalised superman t-shirt which is available from 3 months right up to 12 years old and is one of their super hero range.  Choose your super hero (superman or batman), choose your initial or name and choose your colour of t-shirt.

The T-shirt is a gorgeous stretchy cotton and the design is printed on.  My girls were both so comfy in their t-shirts.  They are the perfect introduction to the gorgeous summery weather.  Holly really is my little super-hero with her giggles and cuddles and new words to add to her vocabulary every few minutes.

All of Rusks and Rebels clothing is sourced ethically using fair-trade cotton from Tanzania and each t-shirt comes with a label that explains the ethos of the fabric supplier.  The inks that they use to print the t-shirts are eco-friendly too.  I must admit they are a very good quality of t-shirt and I rather fancy one of them myself.

Lara's t-shirt is part of the rebels range for children over 2 years.  We love the stretchy fabric and the flattering shape and Lara definitely appreciates the cheeky face which is an emojicon - there are lots of different emojicons to choose from and the t-shirt is available in both girls fit and a more baggy fit.

Flamingos and Dominoes Childrens Clothing Review

It has been quite some time since either of my girls have added any new clothes to their wardrobes (I don't think school uniform counts, does it?) and I had really missed discovering new and exciting kids clothing labels which is why I was so excited to be approached by Flamingos and Dominoes to try out an item from their new babywear range.

Flamingos and Dominos is based in Altrincham near Manchester - their clothes are made and printed in the UK.  The range comprises bodysuits, t-shirts, long-sleeved tops, leggings and accessories for babies and children from 0-4 years old.

All of the clothes from Flamingos and Dominoes are unisex, their prints are coloured and designed to be suitable for both girls and boys which is perfect for us because, although Holly tends to be a lot more feminine than her big sister ever was, both me and Mr. B. are naturally drawn to unisex clothes.  The current range features just three different prints and I think they are all fab. 

Holly's long-sleeved top features a blue and red pony design.  It is made from really soft, super quality 100% cotton.  Around the neck, the top is shaped so that it is easy to take on and off.  I love this top - I always love it when we find an item of clothing that not only looks fabulous but which is practical enough that we all look forward to it coming out of the wash for next time.

I expect Flamingos and Dominoes to be a clothing name I see a lot more of in the future alongside some of my other favourite special children's clothing designers.

Little Grippers Sock Review

Socks. I never suffered sock woes with Lara, but Holly gets through socks at such a rate! I must have had to go back to our local supermarket about 10 times so far to ask if anyone has found a missing sock.. Sometimes even a shoe! Little Grippers claim to have found an answer to my woes... their clever socks that stay put.

I'll admit that I've never tried a contraption that holds baby socks in place because I have worried that they might be uncomfortable for Holly to wear, or that they might add too much bulk should I want to put shoes in Holly to keep her warm. The beauty of the Little Grippers baby and toddler socks is that they don't need anything extra to hold them on... They are normal soft ribbed baby socks but with a line of their magic Stay On material around the top cuff of the sock which help them to stay up.

I can only describe the material of the stay on grip to be a bit like the thin line of nearly adhesive magic stuff that kept my nylon stockings up on the day I got married! The 'sticky' bit is invisible from the outside and is made of natural materials. My initial thoughts were that it would feel a bit uncomfy on Holly's ankles but then I remembered those wedding stockings and the fact that you simply couldn't feel anything at all, and that settled my mind.

The Little Grippers socks are great. Nothing awfully exciting on the outside (they are currently available in pink, blue, yellow and white) but they certainly do stay on well.  I chose Holy a pair for age 12-24 months and she is, admittedly, a bit small for them but despite the fact that they look enormous on her, they have never yet fallen off!.  I'm impressed enough to have started looking at their bigger girls school socks for later this year when Lara starts school.

Polarn O. Pyret Spring / Summer Kids Clothing

Polarn O. Pyret are a scandanavian children's clothes website whose clothes we have tried before - they really have been some of my favourite clothes for my girls this winter and so I was excited when they sent Lara and Holly an item each from their new spring and summer range.

Holly was sent a gorgeous long-sleeved top which is like a mini rugby top for babies!  It is made from a really soft and stretchy cotton in a tunic style so it hangs nice and low over her squidgy bottom. 

As with all the Polarn O. Pyret clothes we have tried, the little details make it something very special; all the hems are over-sewn and bound so that they don't rub and the collar is made from a soft jersey so that it sits flat and doesn't flap up around her chin.  Because the fabric is quite thin and stretchy it will be perfect all summer.  This is currently one of my favourite items of clothing in Holly's wardrobe and because it can be washed at 60 degrees, I know that I can get most stains out of it.

Lara's knee-length dress is also a winner for both me and her.  It is available in baby sizes and girls sizes in a couple of different colours (there are also other co-ordinating items on the Polarn O. Pyret website too).  Lara'as dress is a cotton and elastane mix which means it stretches well and hangs beautifully.  To me this is an every day outfit which suits Lara down to a T.  From experience I would say that Polarn O. Pyret's kids clothes come up on the large size... I had been worried at an age 3-4 dress might be a bit small on her as she is still very tall for her age but in fact this dress was slightly large for her and I expect it to last her through the summer.

Lara's dress costs £19.50 and Holly's top costs £16.50.  I fully expect these to be their most frequently worn items of clothing over the coming months.

All Loved Up...

This weekend we had a girls day; just me, Holly and Lara chilling out at home together. Having been back at work full time for three weeks now, it felt good to be spending some quality time with just me and my baby girls. Weirdly enough though, I felt a bit like the odd one out because there was so much sibling love going on. Holly and Lara are really starting to bond now and beginning to play together.

Now that Holly is 9 months old she is very very nearly walking and can follow her sister around the house, sometimes holding her hand. Lara loves the attention and I can now trust her to sit down and play with her little sister. This weekend there was lots of singing and dancing and Holly thought her big sister was A-MAZE-ING. Holly only has eyes for her big sister right now.

As a celebration of all this sibling love, I thought I'd dress the girls in their new matching valentine's day outfits from Mothercare. Mothercare sent them both a dress from the Baby K range of clothing for babies and children. They look more than a little bit gorgeous!

This week on Valentines day our nursery are having a charity dress-up day when the children are invited to wear red or pink outfits and I think these two gorgeous outfits are just the ticket! the Baby K range are inspired by Myleene Klass and are available from newborn through to 5 years old. Lara's statement dress costs £25-£27 and has a heart-shaped cut-out at the back and bows on each shoulder. I think the thin red belt makes her outfit look very Parisian!

 

Holly's co-ordinating outfit features a soft cotton puffed dress with red flowers embroidered on the front. It comes with a pair of black leggings with red trim and the whole outfit costs £14. I think the two of them look like partners in crime!

Mothercare spared a thought for me too - this fun long sleeved t-shirt (a bargain at £2.50) made my weekend.

Next Kids Clothing - Matching Pairs! #NextKids

I've recently been suffering a crisis on conscience - should I dress my girls in matching or co-ordinating clothes or not?  I remember being dressed in matching clothes with my little sister as a child and quite enjoyed it but Mr. B. has seemed very much against the idea.

Last week the new Next kids clothing spring / summer catalogue dropped through my door and I saw my opportunity!  Quite apart from wanting two of EVERY item of girls clothing in the entire catalogue, Mr. B. and I both fell in love with this sunflower jumper dress and I KNEW we had to have it.  Next sent the girls each a jumper dress and a pair of leggings to give us a taste of their new collection.

One of the things I was most impressed by in the Next catalogue was that most of their children's clothes (as opposed to baby clothes) are available from 3 months to 6 years which meant there was a realistic prospect of dressing the girls in similar clothing.  There is a beautiful collection of white, salmon and denim coloured clothing that I suspect I will be dipping in and out of over the next couple of months to build up some co-ordinating sets of clothes.

I was also very impressed by the value of the clothing from Next - the girls white leggings were £2.50 for Holly's little legs and £3.50 for Lara's long legs.  The jumper dress is a very good quality item (a soft knit and not crunchy at all) and costs around £15-17.

Of course, dressing two very mobile girls in white leggings was a bit of a risk!  Holly did actually manage to make it through most of the day unscathed... until I offered her a biscuit.  Woops.

I don't think I'll be dressing my girls in matching outfits every day of the week but you must admit that they do look extra specially cute in their new Next outfits!

Polarn O. Pyret Children's Clothing Review

Over the summer I had heard rumblings about children's clothing company Polarn O. Pyret and then, with the launch of their new Autumn/Winter range of clothes, both Holly and Lara were asked to review some of the items from Polarn O. Pyret's range of swedish children's wear.

Polarn O. Pyret pride themselves on the quality and usability of their clothes.  The clothes that my girls tried were made from thick, good quality cotton and quite some thought had been put into the details that make these clothes wearable day in day out without stress for children or parents.

Lara's striped leggings has specially sewn seams so that they don't chafe inside and an adjustable elastic waistband so that you can get many many months of use out of them even when your child is growing as fast as Lara is right now.  Her bright elephant long-sleeved top has soft, stretchy cuffs so that she can roll them up easily herself.

I love the colours and the bright simplicity ( and I love the fact that I can wash them on a hot wash or else i would never let her go to nusery in them!!!).  One of the fabulous things about the clothes that Polarn O. Pyret sell is that none of them are specifically for girls or for boys, they are all unisex.  That's not to say that they expect boys to wear skirts and dresses or shocking pink leggings, just that all the designs of tops, trousers and fabrics are just as suitable for girls as boys.  Both Lara's items of clothing are from the children's department which caters for children from 2-6 years but Polarn O. Pyret sell clothing from newborn right up to 12 years.

Holly was sent a pair of Denim Baby Dungarees to try.  Now me and baby denim clothing don't have a good history - when Lara was tiny I quickly established that most baby denim clothing was too stressful for me to try and get on to her because generally I find them too rigid to squeeze misbehaving legs into and because they are quite firm they don't have a long lifetime as your baby's bottom and belly grow quickly.  Thankfully, Polarn O. Pyret have got this covered - these dungarees are made from an extra soft denim; there is nothing rigid about them at all.

There is a lot of movement space in them and the straps and sides have two different sets of studs so that the dungarees can grow with your child.  They are suitable for about age 4-6 months which is a totally different age group than I have seen elsewhere and actually is pretty damn perfect.  Two months is a good lifetime for an item of clothing at this age... three months tends to be too long for an item to fit well.

I think the soft, elasticated ankles are perfect but these come at the expense of a fully undo-able nappy area. There are press studs across 90% of the base of the dungarees but obviously a full elastic ankle cuff means that you still have to manouvre your baby's legs out of the ankle holes in order to change a nappy.  I have also found the press studs at the side and top of the dungarees to come un-poppered a little too easily and I regularly have to re-popper her!

I think Holly looks perfect in her dungarees.  Paired with a brightly coloured top she can look bright and cheerful in her Polarn O. Pyret dungarees or with a pink vest she looks beautifully feminine.  Brilliant.

The Essential One - New Season, New Website

The more I see of the baby clothes from The Essential One, the more I fall in love with them!  We were sent a few items from the brand new Autumn/Winter range of baby essentials to review shortly before their launch and the big reveal of their shiny new website www.theessentialone.com .

I am consistently impressed with the simplicity and quality of the every day essentials such as vests and sleepsuits and I think it says something that given a drawer full of different colours and designs of sleepsuits that we collected during Lara's days and which were given as gifts, both myself and my husband always ALWAYS choose the Essential Ones in preference!

There are lots of new designs for both boys and girls at The Essential One this autumn but, as you can imagine, I'm rather taken by the little girl's gift packs.  Holly regularly sports one of her sets of Essential One vests which come in packs of 5 in a gorgeous soft draw-string bag (I use the bags for Holly's belongings when I take her to the creche at the leisure centre and I also send Lara to nusery with one for her sports kit and outdoor clothes).  

The vintage floral design has fast become one of my favourite, despite Mr. B. worrying that it was a bit too girly for her.  Holly is incredibly feminine and it still surprises us both.  The rose design is complimented by a range of muted pinks - stripes, spots and roses.  We now have the matching jersey baby sleeping bag to go with the vests - it is so soft and snuggly.

The Essential One also do a range of slogan rompers - our velour "I'm the Little Sister" all-in-one always catches people's eyes.

But, I think my absolute favourite item from the entire Essential One range this winter is this knitted spotty button-up cotton all-in-one.  OK, so maybe its not as essential as some of the other clothing they sell but it is totally different to anything else we own and it is just as soft on the inside as it is on the outside - 100% cotton throughout.  The little details are so important on an item like this - it is no use it looking fab if it is too tricky to take on and off - and I'm really grateful for the slightly stretchy cuffs and for the fact that the buttons go all the way down each leg.  It is best worn with something pretty underneath though because the buttons do tend to cause the front to gape.

Babyrug Bug in a Rug Review

The Bug in a Rug from BabyRug is a warm fleece baby wrap for keeping your baby snuggly and toasty when on the move. Holly and I were asked to review the Bug in a Rug and now is the ideal time for us to try it out.

As the temperature has dropped over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed how chilly it is as we leave the house in the morning to do the nursery run and yet within a couple of hours the sun is shining and the world has largely warmed up. Instead of going to the effort of getting Holly dressed into a snowsuit (which is quite frankly too warm at present) or into two million layers of clothing, I've taken to using the BabyRug Bug in a Rug.

The Bug in a Rug is ideal because I can wrap Holly up really tightly in it OR I can unfold the front and pull down the hood to let her cool down. We have taken a couple of days out in the great outdoors this month and I've found it ideal for Holly to wear in the buggy because I don't need to faff about with a blanket (which she always kicks off!)


I think the Bug in a Rug will also be perfect for when I am carrying Holly in her baby carrier. I often worry about how to keep her warm in the carrier and ordinarily, a big bulky snowsuit would be the only option but this is a lot more compact and is likely to keep us both a little cooler when pressed against one another.

The Bug in a Rug is a bit different to other baby wraps and snuggles I have seen because it has two separate leg areas, very much like a snowsuit. This works well because I have also yet to discover another warm baby wrap which really and truely does fit in a car seat. I've seen several that claim they do with small holes to pass the straps through but they always bulk up - having separate legs like the Bug in a Rug means no bulking or having to squidge fabric out of the way.

I would say that at £21.99 the Bug in a Rug is quite expensive for the quality of fleece that you get (the one we tried is made from man-made fibres and has no fancy lining or patterns) - additionally you need to buy different sizes as your baby grows older (because of the legs, you see). It is however very easy to use and fastens with a velcro tab which is simple to undo and flap open the sides to cool your baby down.

You can also buy a 100% cotton version of the Bug in a Rug and a water resistant version as well as a lighter summer wrap. The wraps are available in a range of plain colours (the summer ones come with stripes too!) and are available upto 12 months old.

Cheeky Baby Tees Review - STOP sniffing my bum!

When Cheeky Baby Tees asked us to review their range of novelty t-shirts for babies I simply couldn't resist this one...

.. "Stop Sniffing My Bum!".  Very apt because all of Mr. B.'s family are people who like to sniff baby's bottoms (!!!)  I guess it's a bit like sniffing their heads... only with a very different outcome!

Cheeky Baby Tees sell some very simple t-shirts and bibs but with fun slogans - you can even choose your own text.  Some of my favourite slogans include "Daddy's gadgets are my toys", "If it sparkles, I want it" and "If you think I'm cute, you should see my daddy".  T-shirts are available from 3 months all the way upto 5 years old and there are a few of them that would be very apt for Lara right now ("I'm not scared of the naughty step).

The T-shirt is a nice thick jersey knit of cotton and has survived the wash well.  Holly's is the smallest size and it comes with two poppers on the shoulder to make it easier to take off.  I will admit that at just £7.99 I was expecting a lower quality as the images of the prints on the website didn't look very sophisticated but I was proven wrong when it arrived.

Lilly + Sid Baby Clothing Review

The internet is a wonderful thing - without it I would never discover little gems like Lilly + Sid. Lilly and Sid contacted us to ask Holly to put their range of funky and contemporary clothes to the test.

Holly is a lot more feminine than I am, or Lara ever was and tends to look better in pinks than I had been prepared for which is why this red and pink combo suits us both - Holly gets to look suitably girly while I am kept quiet with the brights and bolds of the red stretchy trim and those gorgeous leggings.

I'm loving how practical the Lilly + Sid clothes are; lots of very fashionable baby clothes simply haven't been thought through but all of the Lilly + Sid clothes we have tried are easy to put on and take off for nappy changes and all wash well.

Lilly + Sid have a range of fun t-shirts too. Lara, at 3 years old REALLY wanted to wear Holly's boo rabbit t-shirt and when I explained that it simply wouldn't fit she said "Maybe when I grow smaller it will fit". Errr... OK.

My favourite item of clothing so far is this summery checked dress. It is still a touch too big for Holly who is far more petite than her sister but it was particularly perfect for on our hot summer holidays.  It has a floral bow on one of the straps which Holly very much enjoys chewing right now!

Sadie and Frank Baby Clothing Review

When Sadie and Frank contacted me to see if I would like to review their funky, organic babywear, I was over the moon. The clothes that they sell are EXACTLY my kind of thing and even though I didn't know at the time whether I was having a boy or a girl, there were lots of items of newborn clothing that took my fancy.

Sadie and Frank don't sell an enormous range of clothing but those that they do sell are bright, bold and fun. All of their products are made from organic fibres (cotton or bamboo) and are ethically sourced.

I love the colours on show at Sadie and Frank - none of your traditional baby colours here (although, it turns out that Holly is a lot more feminine in her style than her older sister Lara ever was).

My absolute favourite item from the Sadie and Frank site was this rainbow stripe romper suit - it has no feet so has been good for the hot nights we have had recently. Wonderfully unisex, this playsuit is one of their awesome range of baby grows - I pretty much wanted ALL OF THEM when I first browsed the site. It is made from a luxurious thick cotton and oozes quality. At 0-3 months, Holly has just started wearing it and there is plenty of growth left in it.

I was also taken by this tiny owl body suit - I love owls and I thought this seemed fun and totally different to any of the other baby clothes I owned. It comes with a matching hat although it was a bit too snug on Holly and had a big label on the inside that didn't look very comfy - to be honest, Holly only ever wore a hat a couple of times before the hot weather kicked in.

We have a vibrant green sleepsuit that matches soooo well with the owl vest.  I love being able to dress Holly in bright colours without worrying that people will frown (OK, old people in the doctors surgery still frown!)

Sadie and Frank offer a gift wrapping service where you can add a card with a personalised message - great for new baby gifts you want delivered. My products were beautifully packed and when they arrived. Even Mr. B. was impressed with the clothes (this says a lot - it is hard for Mr. B. to get excited about baby clothes).

Cambridge Baby Organic Wool Hat Review

Olga and Santi have been reviewing the absolutely scrumptious Pickapooh wool hat from online baby and children's clothes specialist, Cambridge Baby.

Cambridgebaby.co.uk specialises in clothing made from organic and natural materials. Their clothing range spans from newborn to teens (and even a few adult products in there too). There are some really outstanding pieces such as merino wool sleepsuits and some cotton and bamboo staples such as vests, tights and t-shirts. They even sell ecological detergents for you to wash your clothes in and keep them looking great.

Little Santi reviewed the Pickapooh Wool hat with organic polar fleece lining which costs £19.

I must admit, I am a bit of a hat enthusiast. When Santi was sent the Pickapooh hat I was thrilled with the idea of reviewing it. I have for the most part tried all hats designs, many of which do the job they need to... the Pickapooh hat more than does its job; it is EXTREMELY warm and cosy.

The outer and inner lining are made of wool, so not only is it breathable, but its also the ideal companion for those frosty days. Because it is wool, if it does get too grubby, it must be hand-washed on a cool wash, but really it is well worth the effort.

The pickapooh organic wool hat covers the whole head and ears and has a string so you can tie it (in case you have a little one who likes to take his hat off to chew it). The hat has room for growth, however it manages to fit snuggly in the baby's head so that it doesn't end up moving around their little heads.
